P2P Research - Intern Fashion Forecast

Bilson - Nice Fringe

Kicking off our peer-to-peer research programme are Coral and Suzy. This week we are lucky to have them interning with us here at Face HQ. Coral (16) and Suzy (15) have a passion for fashion, so rather than make them address our tea addiction or go to purgatory (a.k.a. the Post Office) we asked them to become our special guest bloggers and let us know what the hot fashion trends of the moment are. Everyday this week they will be unearthing a new trend, so make sure you check back to get your fashion fix!

We will be continue with our peer-to-peer research over the coming weeks and months touching on all sorts of subjects, giving the consumer the platform to tell us what is going on in their lives.

So without further ado, over to Coral and Suzy…

Hi, I’m Suzy and I am 15 years old, I have just finished doing my GCSEs. I am very interested in fashion and my favourite brands are probably Zara and Topshop. I am currently looking to get a job in retail (hopefully in Zara or Topshop!) as I am trying to raise money for a trip to Kenya next summer with a few people from school.

Hello I’m Coral, I’m 16 years old and I have recently finished my GCSEs, currently I am enjoying my Summer breaks away studying. I am interested in fashion and often shop in American Apparel and Urban Outfitters, finding cheap alternatives to designer styles. I am currently looking for a summer job in some sort of high street clothing store where I can learn more about current trends and earn some money money before starting further learning at sixth form.

The first trend we have picked out is fringing…

FRINGING!

Fringing Mood Board

Tasselled fringing has been one of the biggest innovative trends to come out of this years catwalks. A very feminine and sleek adaptation of this trend comes in the form of the fringed skirt or dress, with much of its appeal lying in the way the tassels will move and sway together, complimenting the womans figure. Fringin has also bee added to many bag and footwear ranges.

It originates from the “boho” trend that we’ve seen in previous years, which involved draped, flowing dresses being paired with tasselled boots. It was also present in the 1930 “flappers” era, as seen in films such as Bugsy Malone. This been elaborated on and modernized, and it was prominent in Alezander McQueen’s, Jil Sander’s, Alberta Ferretti’s and Gaspard Yurkievich’s collections.

We think fringing looks best when used casually, possibly in a tan suede material, to give a more bohemian and almost cowboy look. This looks very effective on accessories, for example suede shoes or bags. When used more formally in materials such as satin we believe it is less effective, often looking quite overdone, and sometimes there are so many tassels that it drowns anybody wearing it, hiding their figure and thwarting any other style they’re trying to achieve. Overall, we think this trend is worn best in smalled, subtler garments.
